I had a box of dried Java Moss that I collected mid summer from the killi tanks in the yard. I never did quite check it for eggs, as its more fun to wet it and find out. Well, I wetted it and in 24 hours, I had something swimming around all right.

Mosquito larvae.

LOTS of them.

Some of them were actually quite large, too.

Anyone else ever had this happen?

Yes josh I often collect egg rafts and put in the frezer on wet pet. I the rafts are freshly deposited they will hatch out. in the winter or when you need them. You can also collect dirt from a pool of water or pond that is drying out .The wind blows the rafts to the shore line and hatch when the spring rains come.A great food source for killies or any fish.
